2018 WELCOME LETTER
Greetings Pine Richland JV Tennis Candidates:
Welcome! Summer tennis is in full swing. Hopefully you have enjoyed watching the Pros on TV and enjoyed playing some of your own matches, as well. It was fun to watch Rafael Nadal triumph at Roland Garros in Paris and watch Novak Djokovic win at Wimbledon in London. On the domestic front, I traveled to DC again for the CITI Open to see some thrilling tennis.
Per WPIAL rules, the official Pine Richland preseason preparation begins on Monday, August 13 at 11:00am. Please note: the time and location for this year are different than last year. JV try-outs will be held at the PR High School tennis courts, immediately following the Varsity try-outs.
If you have not already done so, please submit paperwork to Mrs. Morrissey in the Athletic Office if you plan to participate on the team. All student athletes are required to complete the necessary health forms before mid-August. The documents for physical examinations and travel release forms are available on the school website.
Like last year, practices will begin at 3:00pm on the HS courts and will end around 4:30pm. This allows players(and coach) sufficient time after school to attend to school business(tutoring, clubs/activities, homework, or even a quick snack break). Attendance at all practices and matches is mandatory. Otherwise, players may lose their position in the line-up for the following match. Exceptions will be made for illness, injury, etc. If there is a conflict with your schedule, please contact me immediately. As student-athletes, your first priority is academics. Athletic eligibility is verified on a weekly basis. Any girl who is temporarily failing a class cannot play in matches until she has a passing grade. There are no Friday practices, but there are Friday matches. Players must travel to matches on the bus, but may depart with parents.
All girls are encouraged to try out, however, the opponent’s talent level is high and our goal is to have a competitive team. During the week of August 13, players will challenge each other to establish the line-up. Come prepared to develop your game and compete. The most qualified combination of players will participate in three singles matches and two doubles matches. Other players are invited to participate in exhibition matches. Equal playing time is not guaranteed beyond the top seven players.
Finally, everyone is accountable for her actions. The expectation is respect for oneself, the team, all coaches, and opponents. Remember that we represent our school.
Thank you for your interest in RAMS JV Tennis. Looking forward to another exciting and rewarding season!
JV Coach Dawn Herbst
